TEA Resources

 

 

  • Boards of Trustees and School Leaders should use the following tools to aid in selecting programs that align with statutory requirements related to Mental Health training:

    TASB School District Training Chart –  This chart organizes both required and recommended staff development training for all school employees into a series of lists, organized by topic.  Some employee trainings are mandated by law, while others are recommended as risk management practices, and this TASB chart is a go-to resource for districts when planning and evaluating training.

    SBEC Continuing Education and Training Clearinghouse Chart – Navigate here to access the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) approved Continuing Education and Training Clearinghouse.  This resource aids Boards of Trustees in adopting a professional development policy that is guided by the recommendations for training in the Clearinghouse, that notes any differences in the policy adopted by the district or school from the recommendations in the Clearinghouse; and that includes a schedule of all training required for educators or other school personnel at the district or school (per requirements in SB 1267, 87th Texas Legislature.)

    TEA Mental Health Best Practice List - List of recommended best-practice based programs and research-based practices designed to support public schools in meeting statutory requirements for staff training and student support.  List is established by TEC §38.351, and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) coordinates with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and Education Service Centers (ESCs) to create and maintain the list.

    TEA Mental Health Best Practices and Programs List Competencies - List created by TEA to help ensure that locally selected or created programs (those not included in the above lists and clearinghouses) align with statutory requirements in their specific focus areas.

  • Fentanyl Awareness Resources from TEA Texas School Mental Health - TEAs toolkit is designed to provide communications resources and support to schools systems in their efforts to educate their schools communities on the dangers of fentanyl. 

    TEA Learn Child Abuse Prevention Course - This training offers guidance and resources on recognizing and responding to child abuse, including the trafficking of school-aged youth. Participants will develop the awareness and skills needed to identify possible warning signs, along with a clear understanding of legal responsibilities and reporting requirements.

It aligns with TEA’s strategic priorities and statutory mandates along with parental consent and involvement, ensuring that every Texas student has access to mental health resources that promote well-being, academic success, and lifelong resilience.

• 2025-2026 School Year: Train at least 25% of applicable district employees. • 2026-2027 School Year: Train at least 50% of applicable district employees. • 2027-2028 School Year: Train at least 75% of applicable district employees. • 2028-2029 School Year: Train at least 100% of applicable district employees.

This toolkit supports schools with readiness to plan interventions, services and supports for the Safe and Supportive School Program.
