School Behavioral Threat Assessment
School Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (SBTA) provides a proactive, evidence-based approach for identifying individuals who may pose a threat and for providing interventions before a violent incident occurs.

Training Prerequisites
ESC staff members who wish to be considered for this TOT opportunity must:
- have experience training others.
- be able to describe the four years of direct experience in conducting behavioral assessments and identifying risk factors.
- have completed the TxSSC Basic Virtual SBTA training (offered for free) at TxSSC SBTA Virtual Training Catalog. Evidence of completion is required prior to attending the TOT.
Outcome
Upon completion of all the requirements for the training, the ESC staff member will be able to provide School Behavioral Threat Assessment (SBTA) in-person training using the Texas State School Safety Center (TxSSC) curriculum to their local districts as a staff member of the ESC. The ability to train on SBTA is only granted when working as an ESC staff member and is not available for private training use.
Please note: You must attend both days to receive permission and access to materials to teach the course. Submission of individual training data to the Title IV, Part A Capacity Building Initiative will be required of participants.
Post Training Expectations
Trained ESC Staff are expected to provide training (alone or with another trained ESC staff member) to the districts in the ESC region at least three times a year: fall, spring, and summer. Following any offered trainings, ESCs will report the name, campus, district, and attendee count present at each training to the T4PA CBI through the submission form, and maintain a list of the workshop participants in accordance with your ESC workshop record practices.
ESCs would only be able to charge districts a reasonable materials fee for training and programs to all school systems per the ESC ESSA Basic Services Initiative Program Guidelines.
